Fursuit Games

Hey guys!

Stripes wants to remind you that even on Sunday, there are still stuff going on at What the Fur! At 1:30 will be held our fursuit games, which will be hosted again by FurFright's chairman Belic Bear! If you have a fursuit, put it on and come play, and if you don't, come watch these guys trip all over their feet trying to catch balls or mime the word "Mimosa"! This year, we're having custom prizes for all participants, something you can only get by suiting up and have fun at the games!

It's on Sunday the 3rd, it's at 1:30 PM, it's gonna be awesome. See you there!

April 2012

Hotel reservations are still available!

As the convention creeps closer, some of us think of some important things. Things such as "Do I need to pack that sketchbook?”, "Did I set the alarm before laying down?” or "Do I need that extra pair of underwear?” But the sad reality is, most of us forget that sketchbook (and yes, even the underwear) now and then. One thing that also gets forgotten is making sure you have a place to stay for your visit.

The Hotel Espresso is still offering us a room rate of $110 CDN per night, but the deal isn’t without its end date. The deal ends on May 6th! So if you haven’t made your arrangements with the hotel for a room yet, get on it! The room rate is available for anyone staying at the hotel from May 31st to June 4th, so you can even spend an extra day checking out the sights! Just be sure to mention you’re going to What The Fur when you call the hotel to reserve your room (that would be -514-938-4611 or 1-877-468-3550). Sadly, getting the good rate on the rooms isn’t available online, but if you call, the people working at the main desk of the hotel know us and love us.

If you’re looking for someone to share a room with, we have our forums available on the website, and there is also our Livejournal or Dreamwidth groups for sending requests.

Just 8 more weeks until the creatures of the night come out of hiding!

Oh, and don’t forget the underwear.

August 2011

And we're back!

What The Fur invites you to to begin the summer in Montreal at our third annual event. 2011 was just too much fun, and so we've decided to take another run at it and host you all again!

First, we would like to happily announce that our Guest of Honour is the amazing Karine Charlebois, also known as Kanthara. She is an accomplished professional artist, having worked on storyboards and graphic novels, most notably Gargoyles: Bad Guys. You can check out some of her works by using the links on the right.

Secondly, we've decided to take a different approach with our theme this year. No more conflices. No Pirates and Ninjas. No Zombies overrunning our beautiful island home. This year, we will focus on what many of us seem to be: Creatures of the Night. You may have heard rumours of another theme, however rest assured that these are only rumours.

Next, our dates. As usual, What The Fur will be held in early June. Due to the unannounced dates of the Formula 1 races, WTF cannot 100 percent guarantee our dates, but at this point in time we can safely say that we are 98.8 percent sure we will be from the 1st to the 3rd of June. Once those dates are solidified we will announce it here, and the hotel will open for room reservations.

But on a higher note, you can now begin your plans, and pre-register for WTF 2012! Ourregistration system is open and waiting for you! Early Bird Pre-Registration rates will be available from now until January 1st, so act now to secure your spot at the event!

More news will be coming shortly, so watch our pages closely, or visit our forums for the latest discussions and to ask questions.

Guest of Honour

Karine Charlebois

Karine Charlebois , also known as Kanthara, has been drawing since she could hold a crayon. When she learned that cartoons weren't exactly made by elves in Japan and California, she found her way into the Montreal animation industry. She's worked mostly in storyboarding for both TV and video games, and at some point decided to try her hand at comics, first landing a few gigs with an educational publishing house and producing a graphic novel for them. A well known artist in the Gargoyles fandom, she got the opportunity to draw both for the main series and the Gargoyles: Bad Guys spinoff, published by SLG.

She currently juggles working from home on storyboards for different shows, raising two young boys with her husband, and trying to make her obese, geriatric cat lose some weight, with a certain measure of success.

Karine also holds a shared 2007 Ursa Major award for her work on Gargoyles.
